Are you in crisis?

As per WHO's 'Mental Health Status of Adolescents in South-East Asia: Evidence for Action' Report, published in 2017, a quarter of adolescents in India in the 13-15 age group suffer from depression. Even the National Mental Health Survey of India, 2015-16 conducted by National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reveal rising mental health concerns among children, both in rural and urban settings.

COVID-19-related school closures have affected over 1.5 billion children around the world. It is needless to say that the present COVID-19 situation will only add to the rising concerns in the present circumstances.

With the arrival of COVID-19 symptoms like anxiety, depression, anger management, OCD’s, learning disability, fears and phobias, mood disorders are significantly exacerbating on daily basis.

This portal is an attempt to reach out to girls and their families who have been experiencing some mental health issues like anxiety, stress disorder etc. during or post COVID-19 due to multiple reasons like closure of schools, interruption in studies, fear of lack of opportunities in accessing their basic rights etc. through community workers and teachers.

Last but not the least, this portal touches some finer aspects in the form of the following goals:

To create a Safe and Caring space in schools and community for young girl children by focusing on mental health risks arising out of COVID-19 and to build resilience to overcome the mental health challenges during COVID-19 and to encourage them to continue their school education.
To equip field workers with primary understanding on mental health needs and issues of school going girls as well as out of school girls to help them build resilience towards the mental health challenges emerged out of COVID-19
To train teachers to address the mental health risks of girls in order to improve their retention and help achieving the SDG goals and targets.

Mental Health is an integral part of health and well-being. It inherently impacts physical health and the two are inseparable in terms of achieving a complete state of wellness.

In this endeavour to bridge the gap between the community and understanding of mental health issues, we have created two modules for Community Workers and Teachers. These modules can also be used by anybody to build some understanding on mental health issues of children, especially through gender lense.
