In a joint operation, police and officials of child welfare department raid factory in Bhatta Basti, arrest its owner.

Nine child labourers were rescued from Bhatta Basti area in Shastri Nagar on Wednesday afternoon. The kids were rescued in a joint operation by Jaipur police andchild welfare department officials. They were working at a bangle-making factory. The factory was run by Mohammad Azad, a resident of Bihar. The police arrested Azad. The rescued children are between 8 and 10 years in age.

They were engaged in making bangles by melting glass in a highly hazardous furnace at high temperatures. The kids were brought from different districts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, sources said.

The children have scars of burn injuries on their bodies.  “We rescued nine minor children from a furnace-based bangle factory in Bhatta Basti area. We have also arrested the factory owner, Mohd.

Azad. Now we are questioning him,” said Harjilal Yadav, station house officer (SHO), Bhatta Basti.

The police team was accompanied by a team of child welfare department officials.

“We were informed by the officials of child welfare department that several kids were being forced into hazardous works of making bangles at a factory in Bhatta Basti. Inspector I Singh contacted us and we formed a joint team to raid the factory,” said the station house officer. The factory is located in front of famous RK Hotel in the area. Bangle making was going on at the factory for months. The police also said that there could be some more places and factories where minor kids are engaged in hazardous works. Cops said these factories would be identified and raided soon.
