LUCKNOW: A trio of juveniles sentenced to three years confinement swallowed an overdose of pain killers late Friday at the Lucknow juvenile home after they were held guilty by juvenile justice board. Two juveniles from Unnao district were convicted for murder while the third from Lucknow was sentenced in a case of sexual assault.
The three were produced before the juvenile justice board on Friday noon around 4pm and then taken to Mohan road, Para located juvenile home.
The trio was depressed over the indictment and managed to obtain pain killer pills. They took the pills around 11.30pm and started vomiting. An alarm was raised by remaining inmates and the three were rushed to Balrampur hospital for treatment. Police said the three were stable and had been shifted to the juvenile home.
Meanwhile, on Saturday staff members conducted an inquiry and found out that the three had gone to the dispensary after reaching juvenile home on Friday. The three said they were suffering from terrible body ache and asked for pain killers.
After consuming the pills, the trio staged the drama of consuming poison on Friday. The doctors, however, checked them up and declared their health was stable. It emerged that the three were looking for an opportunity to escape from the hospital but could not do so as cops from Para police station escorted them to the hospital. Generally, juveniles are escorted by home guards and the three thought they would have no issue escaping their clutches, said a source.
On the intervening night, panic gripped the board's staff as it was feared that the three had consumed poison to end their lives, fearing conviction. The three, added the source, might be transferred to other juvenile homes across the state.
