West Bengal

HAQ: Centre for Child Rights came into partnership with Society for People’s Awareness (SPAN) , Kolkata, in 2006decided to start child budget analysis work in West Bengal. The first analysis of this partnership came out in 2008 as ‘Budget for Children in West Bengal’.  Since then they have been doing regular analysis of the state budget.  SPAN has since inception worked closely with communities to reach out to marginalised women and children in both rural and urban areas of the state. On the other hand children mostly residing in urban areas of Kolkata and its periphery were provided access to quality education through community based Non- Formal Education (NFE) centres and through “Anandadhara”, a primary school.
HAQ and SPAN are continuing their work with expanding the horizon of budget analysis into using it for community mobilisation.
