he 14-year-old boy, who was apprehended for allegedly raping and physically assaulting an 11-year-old girl for several months, has revealed that he was not the only one who used to sexually abuse inmates of the orphanage.

The police, who were investigating the death of the 11-year-old girl, met other inmates during their visit to Arya orphanage and found that most of them were subjected to sexual abuse.

“They all wanted to say something and at least five boys complained of sodomy. We will investigate each case separately. We are in the process to file another FIR in which the boy’s parents have come forward,” a police officer said. The police said that they can investigate cases in which either Child Welfare Committee (CWC) or child’s parents are the complainant.

“Although the children have shared their trauma with us, the government needs to file an official complaint if they want an FIR. In one case, the boy’s parents have come forward and we will get the medical examination of him conduced before registering the FIR,” the officer added.

The police are also likely to take action against the orphanage for not informing them about cases of sexual abuse.

Some girls told the police that boys used to peep into their rooms from the windows on one of the walls. The NGO, which had gone with police, had asked children to draw something on their dreams. “One girl wrote a very sad story on her drawing and such stories clearly tell a tale of depression. The authorities do not seem to be aware of the levels of depression among the children,” the report by NGO Haq said.
