2.83 Lakh children get polio drops in Pune

PUNE: As many as 2.83 lakh children below five years of age received oral polio vaccine drops in the city on Sunday.

The health department of the Pune Municipal Corporation had set up 1,300 booths and had deployed 4,448 officials. "As against the target of vaccinating 3.25 lakh children below five years of age, our officials vaccinated 2,83,190 children on the first day of the drive. Those who have been left out will be covered in the next five days through door-to-door visits," said civic health chief S T Pardeshi.

Mobile teams were appointed in high-risk areas, while like brick kiln sites, sugar factories, minor construction sites and migratory slums.
