J John

J John is former executive director, Centre for Education and Communication (CEC), based in New Delhi since 1994.

His areas of specialization are unorganised labour and small producers. As Executive Director, CEC, J John initiated and guided several action research and policy advocacy programmes. Among them are areas like impact of trade on labour, child labour, corporate social responsibility, universal social security, rights of migrant workers, contemporary forms of slavery etc.

He has also been instrumental in mobilising small tea growers all over the country into associated and empowered operative units to achieve fairer terms of trade in the tea value chain.

J John is among the founders of the English bimonthly Labour File. His reflective and analytical writings on social and economic issues have also appeared in various national and international journals. J. John is an Ashoka Fellow.
